Setting Up
Please help! I have a Kryptview A780 there is no RS-232 serial interface at the back of my PC so I have purchased a converter for USB to RS-232 but my pc is not recognising the connection? How can I get my PC to connect to the Kryptview box? All help really appreciated. Many thanks.

Re: Setting Up
If the firmware is already on the box it can be updated by the remote control.
Menu - Installation - S/W Update
Presume your using Vista/Windows 7
If you have a computer or laptop without a 9 pin serial socket you will still need the
Female to Female Serial Null Modem Cable and the USB to Serial DB9 Adaptor Converter
to make it fit into your USB port

Re: Setting Up
Thank you for your quick response. We have the correct converter lead to connect our PC to our Kryptview box & loaded the disc onto our PC, We are not very PC literate though & do not know how to upload the information to the box? Nothing happens when we connect the box via the leads to our PC. It briefly says that 'new hardware has been located' in a small box bottom left but nothing opens & we can't find it listed under 'My Computer' so don't know how to update the box. Thanks again for all your help.

Re: Setting Up
Hi & thanks again for helping us. We have been trying to use a USB serial converter but nothing appears to be happening when we connect. I have already read the instructions on the set up that you have posted. Should something appear when i plug in? There is just no response when I connect the box to the computer. PS. We're from Hove actually! Thanks again.

Re: Setting Up
Hi Jon, We're so close now & it's all thanks to you, thanks for being so patient with us. We've downloaded the right bits but when we get to the STB Editor box & try to 'Code send' we get a box pop up headed STB Editor, ''Can't open serial port com1. Please check if the com port has the following parameters, Baudrate: 115200bps, parity:no parity, Databyte:8 bit/data,Stop bit:1'' We tried using different downloads of the same software but after 4 attempts it still comes up with the same box. Do you have any suggestions? Shame you don't live round the corner! Ady

Re: Setting Up
Sounds like the cables are not connected, connect cables as in the info you printed.
The com port may have to be changed click on the arrow and try another com port.
This is info from Dooby for another box have a look regarding cables and com ports.
DO NOT INSTALL ANY OF THE SOFTWARE IN THIS LINK.

Re: Setting Up
Hi Jon, As always, thank you so much! We think it must be to do with the special converter cable we had to buy so that the 9 pin plug could connect to the usb port. We've tried it in all the USB ports & still it won't work. We don't have an old PC with a 9 pin port anymore. Do we need to find someone who does? Many thanks. Ady

Re: Setting Up
Download this driver, from Dooby's link (it''s for XP)
http://www.gilsson.com/WinXP_drivers.zip
Connect the 9 pin null modem cable to the usb cable (ie use both cables) to complete the connection.

Hi Jon, Thanks again, we've downloaded the driver but it just opens to show the files doesn,t ask us to 'run'. How do we get it to work? We'd really like to get it working tonight, the kds are moaning!!! Can't believe we're this close. Thanks again, Ady.

Re: Setting Up
Hi Jon, I should never underestimate my wife she read the note from last night & changed the port number &we've finally loaded the software onto the box, just about to search for the channels now so hopefully it will be up & running today & my whole family might forgive me for giving them so much grief this week & preventing them from watching any tv around the house. Couldn't have done it without you though, you're a top bloke. Ady
