Yep! Got the bairn the starview 3 which seems a doodle to flash compared to my starview 1! Think I just might treat myself in the new year to another!

Does anyone know anything about the OPENMEDIA 500cs CABLE AND SAT RECEIVER. Does it do what it says on the box?

Info on that box This box can be used for reception of free-to-air cable and satellite TV channels
It is a linux box and compatible with the thousands of linux / enigma & Neutrino based images that are available on the internet for the Envision 500 / Eagle 500 and other 500 compatible linux receivers
Seems same as dbox/dreambox but has satallite tuner also Price around £115 not a bad price
Info found
1) A sensitive cable tuner (screw on type) so no more freezing or pixalation and no F adapter required
2) 2 x scart sockets so you can connect a VCR / DVD Player (Not available with standard 500 receivers)
3) 2 tuners in 1 so you can use it as a Satellite box or a Cable box
4) 2 flash chips onboard (so you can run a different image for Satellite and Cable (no need to keep reprogramming the image each time you want to change the mode))
5) Ch+ / Ch- controls on the front panel (Not available with standars 500 receivers)
6) Internal power supply (A standard 500 has an external bulky power adapter)
7) Can drive a motorised satellite system (Not possible with a standard 500 as it runs of a 12v 1 amp power pack)
Downside some peeps might find hard to update
This box is pre loaded with a FTA Neutrino Image that contains NO ROMS. Which means it will only receive the freeview channels.
You can of course FTP into the box and transer files into it.

new box
Excellent advice as always. One question though, what does "You can of course FTP into the box and transer files into it" mean? Are you suggesting that it can be be used just like any other "box".

Re: gettin a new box
It also means unlike starview as you only need a serial cable and gtrom to update
This box you need to set network address and use network cable to ftp connect to update and change files you could use my dbox guide to connect to this link below will give you a idea of whats involved
