A850 going wonky Empty A850 going wonky

Post by dreamshiner1 Fri Apr 25 2014, 00:24

Hey,

First time poster, please be gentle and accept my ignorance.

I have an A850, around November for some reason the Sky Sports 1 changed from 511 to 424 (its still listed as True Christmas in the station ID).

Sky Sports 3 also moved to 708 and PBS replaces S4C on 166. While not ideal I could handle it.

When I now instigate a scan nothing happens, and in the past two days I've lost most of the documentary channels in the 200-240 range and E4 (however I have E4 HD which I didn't have until a few months back)

* Has this happened to anyone else?
* Anyone got the slightest idea what's happened?
* Obviously, solutions?

Which software is on the box. menu-system info- what date.
Is the Search Mode on if so turn it off, Menu-Other Settings, reboot-rescan.
Missing channels, reckon wrong NetID is being used, did box work at any time in your premises.
Have a look at the second part of this thread and check the groups (TPs) suspect some TP are missing, your TPs will differ.

C Model
HV 1.0.00.00
Software: SV 1.02.06
Software Date Jul 5 2013
Boot Version H3.55

As for the Time
Auto Sync - ON
Date and Time are correct
GMT +0000
Daylight Saving Time - OFF

I'm unsure what you mean by "search mode"

A cable scan returns nothing, whereas before it scrolled through loads of info.

The box worked perfect until mid November then I the sky sports channels changed numbers,  as I said no I've lost most of the documentary channels in the past week. I get "Bad or no Signal"

Ooo cryptic.

I haven't tried it yet, need to unplug and attach to another point in the house to scan without splitters. Will do later.

Just finally got round to it there (I've been away for 2 months with work) and still nothing, that me moved it to the feed I used to set it up originally.

I have to split my cable for the router and the A850 its the only way I can get a cat5 into the box from a functioning internet connection.

Only differences between now and then:

The outside box on the side of my building, I switched the twin splitter to a triple as I got the installer to put a connector in another room as if it was a new installation rather than just hook up the existing one.

There's no need to scan with box connected to net, scan direct from the wall socket (no splitters) before connecting to net check BBC, ITV is working.
After scan connect to box to router

Believe the firmware for that box now is 26/05/14

OK, update.

So web based firmware update actioned. Then moved box to main feed where I set the boxes up originally. Attempted it using Telewest, nothing just timer counts up with nothing appearing.

So decide to go outside to the external brown plastic box on the side of the house. I had changed the double splitter for me and my neighbour to a triple splitter I ordered off the internet. The internet one was substantially smaller than the VM ones. As I inspect I see it now has a new cable tie on it and my flimsy little splitter has been replaced with a big three way one.

However I have done scan's from the remote (multi split) locations before I started to have the issues.

All I can think of is either the splitter or somewhere further up the stream has some sort of thing to reduce my signal.

Thoughts?

There's little doubt you have a live feed because VM Broadband (BB) is being used in your premises.
There is no need to go outside all you need is inside, as before what channels are being received.? if any? help us to help you.

if you factory reset then rescanned on a different provider, sometimes what we think may have changed and if you have a provider box one could get the netid off that.

Did you remove my channel list I thought I posted it last night?

The only thing is if I factory reset I may lose what I do have left, which is scary.

The feed being used for BB is the same feed for TV, scan from the wallsocket no splitter therefore BB will be off.
After scan connect BB to box, BBC 1 will show local news.
If you have a VM sub box(one you subcribe to) the correct NetID can be obtained doing, Settings - Tech Stuff - No1 NetID, 40984 rings a bell

Don't recommend factory reset unless no other choice.

Previous post with channel listing, never seen report back if FTA (BBC, ITV) is working

The A850 was co located with the BB and had a splitter from another in the loft that split the main signal into the house and took it to the livingroom and bedroom.

When I got Virgin reinstalled, I got the engineer to give me a new feed in the back bedroom, its from there I had success when I first got the A850, so I took it back to there and set it up the exact same, however without joy.

Scan before the splitter do NOT scan through the splitter, it could be a faulty splitter.
As previous have any channels been found eg BBC ITV.
Do you subscribe to VM for TV if so was the VM sub checked that the correct NetID is being used, as state in previous post
When the box went down was a factory reset done, if so thats the probem with the box now.

The only splitter between the box and the pavement is the one in the brown plastic box cable-tied to the side of the house. There is a three way there, one for my neighbour and 2 for my house.

Where one of those enters my home is where I successfully scanned when I first got the A850 and now it doesn't work.

I do have TV from VM, but I have the basic package. I'll check the net ID shortly.

I haven't done anything to the box other than continually try to rescan. No factory reset has ever been done.

Assume they is no channels working including BBC, ITV.

If the channels (approx 350) are there but showing "bad or no signal" this means no live feed, bad connections.
1) If the VM sub box is connected and working use that feed to connect to the KV box to input
2) If easier, disconnect the feed to router/hud to KV box that cable feed is working.
3) If channels are there but show scrambled this is a problem with the connection between router/hub and box, this is why I asked if BBC,ITV was working.
______________
The more  I read through this thread the more it looks like the three-way splitter you installed.
Have a look on Ebay for a "Konig 3 way splitter"

Just as an update, after plenty of hair pulling I decided to bite the bullet and reset to factory settings, went into Scan and it worked a treat. Got everything back however a few channels are missing but I think thats just part and parcel of the Kryptview. Needless to say all the important ones are working.

Thanks for everyone's help
